Carbamates Synthesis

Carbamates are a versatile group of compounds containing a nitrogen attached to an ester linkage. They are used in chemical industry for a longtime for as raw materials and intermediates for polymer and agro-industry. Phosgene route is the world-wide industry adopted method for synthesis of Carbamates. Phosgene being toxic has many limitations.

We are employing Carbon dioxide as a replacement for Phosgene. The reaction takes place at moderate temperature and pressure  with amine and halides as raw materials. Currently we are investigating the catalytic activity of gallium oxide on different amines and halides. Different phases and morphologies of the catalyst are being investigated for comparison.
